Curious, quick-thinking, and occasionally much too sure his plan will work. Niko loves a mystery, a useful invention, and a shortcut. His biggest discoveries begin when the world surprises him.

Inventive, adventurous, and very good at spotting the flaw in Niko’s shortcut. Rae jumps into a muddle with a clever idea and a quick joke. She is discovering that sometimes the best way to help is to stay, listen, and let someone else lead.

A silent, star-winged companion with a taste for warm places, curious lights, and very inconvenient landing spots. Mote can turn a serious plan into a small disaster, or help both friends notice exactly what they need.
